In terms of its construction and functionality, Smartpole Crossing resembles a traffic light system in which yellow warning light signals are emitted from inside the composite poles towards approaching vehicles when a pedestrian approaches the crossing.

In such a situation, the device switches from standby mode to warning mode, activated by a system of curtain sensors or radar sensors responsible for detecting a pedestrian approaching the crossing area from the left or right side of the road.

A unique feature of the system is the built-in speakers installed inside the poles, which play a programmed voice message of any content, for example: “stop, exercise extreme caution, make sure that no vehicle is approaching”. Such a generated message helps increase awareness and concentration among people with disabilities, blind or visually impaired people, as well as those with their eyes “immersed in their smartphones”, often paying no attention to approaching vehicles.

In addition to the warning system, which provides effective information for drivers and pedestrians, a very important element of an active crossing that affects pedestrian visibility is the proper illumination of the entire crossing area, in accordance with the guidelines recommended by the Ministry of Infrastructure for correct pedestrian crossing lighting.

In the Smartpole Crossing system, this requirement is ensured by modern LED lighting fixtures with asymmetric light distribution, installed on composite poles, providing positive contrast responsible for the proper illumination of a pedestrian’s silhouette without dazzling drivers.

Reflective D6 road signs installed on poles on both sides of the road are equipped as standard with an option to illuminate their content with continuous or flashing light, synchronised with the LED warning lamps and the voice message.
